Your homework is to attempt one of the post-reading tasks from the study book (this will be assigned to you in class) and make a detailed presentation/information sheet/worksheet for the other members of the class. Once you have done this and the class has been handed your presentation, I would like you to comment on each of the presentations that you were provided with.
So, for example, if Gaia provided you with a beautiful presentation on the significance of children in the play, you would put a comment up on this post saying something like 'Thanks for the insights on Gus: I hadn't seen him as a fuction of hope and intuition until you pointed it out...'
You get the gist.

Kathyrn: I've read your surface and subtext presentation and have decided that I liked it. I found it interesting when you discussed Bernard, and how he has an unconcious capacity to care for others, particularly Hannah. I had always seen him as a vain and egocentric, I will now look at him differently. So thanks for that, much appreciated.
ReplyDeleteKathyrn: thanks for the insightful comment about how Septimus may have gona mad after Thomasina's death due to love or guilt. Septimus's madness is rarely explained or focused on in the play, and an explanation like yours elludes to a deeper relationship or moral code within Septimus and Thomasina. WELL DONE. Lots of love, Caitlin x
ReplyDeleteChantelle has presented a very clear cut comparison between neo-classicism and romanticism. It is very coherent and easy to read giving extended examples. Well done.
ReplyDeleteKathy, your presentation of the symbols in Aracdia are detailed and informative. You offer a variety of explanations for the number of different props used in the play that reflect both the era the play was writtin in and the different perspectives they support (Romantic vs methodical)
ReplyDeleteI greately enjoyed reading your presentation
Kathy:I thought your one on symbols was really useful as before I had not really got the significance of the piano but after your explanations i now fully understand, however i don't like your font. KAT
ReplyDeleteEmily: I really liked in your presentation when you linked the question over trivialites to the objects on the table. It was really clear. Thank you
ReplyDeleteKathy's 'Symbols in Arcadia' gives an insight into the many alternative interpretations of various objects that appear throughout the play. In particular, the social and historical context of different eras are explored, but not just specifically in relation to Romanticism and the Age of Reason.
ReplyDeleteLouisa : You raised some interesting points, and the speech format is gripping and effective. your use of rhetorical questions makes me think deeper into the discussion you put forward. EXCELLENT.

LuLu:I really enjoyed your presentation on determinism and free will. I thought it was good as you set out both sides of the argument very clearly, making a difficult topic easier to understand. I particularly liked the way you used the relationahips in the play to show your point. It was very thought provoking. Thank you

ReplyDeleteMy first impressions are that your presentation is very neat an well organised, we are impressed. We are futher impressed by your multitute of excellent intreguing points. The contrasts are very accurate and as for your Thomasina comments we are without words.
Good Job. Keep up the good work.

An excelent comparisson of characters drawing out differences and similarities between regency and present day characters.
ReplyDeletewell done! celeste
Maddy, your in depth analysis of the geniuses of Thomasina and Gus in the play raised some interesting concepts. For example, your interpretation that Chloe and Augustus are "ignorant" and "naiive" was thought provoking. I really enjoyed the layout. It was very well organised and I felt it drew comparisons to Miss Hansfords worksheets which were also useful.
ReplyDeleteNatalie: Your presentation on symbols in Arcadia was very interesting and I enjoyed it. It was extremely well presented making it very easy to read.I particularly like the points you made on fire, they were very interesting. Thank you
